How to take automatic screenshots of the NOAA Space Weather Enthusiasts dashboard

Learn how to automatically capture screenshots of space weather conditions on a recurring schedule using NOAA's dashboard and PagePixels.

Introduction

PagePixels is a screenshot automation tool that you can use to take automated scheduled screenshots of web pages, including screenshots of the Space Weather Enthusiasts dashboard.

PagePixels is free to start, and this tutorial shows you the steps to automatically capture screenshots of NOAA's Space Weather dashboard on a daily schedule.

Example

Prerequisites

Before you start, you'll need:

  • A PagePixels account.
  • The link to NOAA's Space Weather Enthusiasts dashboard report page:
    https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/communities/space-weather-enthusiasts-dashboard

How to automate screenshots of the Space Weather Enthusiasts dashboard

To take daily recurring screenshots of NOAA's Space Weather Enthusiasts dashboard:

1

Create a screenshot

Log in to your PagePixels account, and click the +Create Screenshot button.

2

Set your schedule

By default, scheduled screenshots are taken every 5 minutes.

For a daily screenshot, update the fields to: 1 Days

3

Add URL

Copy and paste the Space Weather Enthusiasts dashboard link into the Website URL to Capture field.

https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/communities/space-weather-enthusiasts-dashboard
4

Add CSS Selector

Enter the following selector into the CSS Selector field:

#zone-content

This will make it so only the dashboard will be captured (no navbar or footer elements).

To learn more about the CSS Selector option, see the CSS Selector Screenshot guide here.

5

Check Incremental Scroll

Tick the Incremental Scroll option.

This option helps trigger content that only loads when a user scrolls the page (i.e. lazy-loaded content).

6

Save Screenshot

Click the green Save Screenshot button (top-right).

Your screenshot automation is officially set, and your first dashboard screenshot will be taken shortly.
